SOLD - BEST OFFER FOR: Very Rare Jensen Spectrum 520-Restored
NEW PRICE I need the space. Rare and beautiful, Jensen Spectrum 520, 2 way speakers by Jensen Sound Labratories-Made in USA. Close serial numbers: 109490 & 435.
These are very smooth speakers with detailed, high end CTS tweeters and Jensen 10" woofers. Sealed cabinet. Newly refoamed with correct foams from Midwest Speakers Repair.
The cabinets have been sanded and refinished, grills cleaned and detailed, no holes or snags and the color is perfect. One scratch on one logo.
Features high frequency controls on the front that have been cleaned and treated.
There is little info but I know they are from a series that also had a 530, 540, and 550. With the last one being a 4 way 15" .
They were made from 1977-81 and the 520's retailed for roughly over $300.
They have excellent build quality with finished front baffles and weigh in at about 24lbs being 22 1/2 high x 13 1/4 wide x and 11" deep (with solid wood, beveled trim)
Grill frames are 1 1/2" thick and attach by the round plastic pressure pins. All perfect and straight. Medium brown with Gold badges.
I refinish and restore speakers for a hobby and have had many pairs through here and these have become some of my favorites. I would take these over Large Advents. JBL l46, L19, some vintage KLH models and all multi driver vintage speakers. They have been hooked up to an Adcom 555ii big power and 12 watt/ch tube and everything in between and they always sound fantastic. I have played them on all sorts of music and the bass is tight, full and the CTS tweeters image smoothly. I have my buddy's do blind listening tests and all say wow, are you kidding me, those are Jensen's. Right now doing an AB comparison to ADS L570ii and it is a toss up. I realize that is a 8" to 10" woofer difference but it says something for the detail and addictive vintage smoothness these have.
Being rare and having very unique, gorgeous cabs makes them even more collectable. HAVE something your buddy's DON'T.
Sorry for the bad pics. my flash was not set correctly. The cabs are not as red as they appear in the photos and the wood grain is typical of Walnut like on JBL's. I can send more photos if you like.
