This unit is a first edition C-9. I have replaced the power transformer with an outboard transformer. That helps the dynamic range and noise quite a bit. Also, the RCA jacks in the rear have been changed out to decent quality.
Ok, images added. I have upgraded DOZENS of these units with great results. Not ONE complaint has ever been made, only praise. This unit, as many of the others is unique. I mean in this case, I did not replace original chips. What I did replace is every single electrolytic capacitor with a much superior type or kind. Names such as Nichicon, or Elna or Panasonic are used, and ONLY if they qualify. The other thing that I just won't skip over are those crappy RCA jack in the back of the unit. I use chassis mounted, gold plated types that are again, MUCH superior to the originals. It bears repeating that I have replaced the original transformer with a beefy one that really does make a difference in the sound.FOR REFERENCE, I HAVE ADDED A PHOTO OF A SIMILAR POWER SUPPLY THAT I BUILT. The original transformer is shown beside it for comparison. This is not the exact same power supply, but quite like the one used in this project.YES, THE SEPARATE POWER SUPPLY SHOWN IN THE OTHER TWO PHOTOS WITH THE C9, COMES INCLUDED. It adds to the cost, and from now on, I will only go this route, as it has ALWAYS improved the performance of this unit. More could be done at a higher cost, but this will get you most of the way. Buying a unit without upgrades is the same as not filling your tires with enough air. Yah they work, but not up to their potential. I won't preach here. You either get it or you don't. And for the record, when I say that this unit is a solid 8, that's exactly what it means. Not the "mint" condition claimed when I bought it. Unit comes with reprinted manual, and power cord. And will be properly packed, not just thrown into some cardboard box. PLEASE ask questions. I can send MANY photos of my former C-9/H-9 work. Thanks.
