A very highly regarded amplifier from Van Alstine's early years (circa 1978). It has been reviewed many times both back when it was new and by many proud owners who have one and praised for it's power and very clean dark sound. Take a look at the specs below. Price is firm, not accepting offers.
The reason it is listed at $150 is because this amplifier has no sound output from either channel. I have taken it to a qualified audiophile technician who bench tested it for me and checked all the solder joints, switches, capacitors and transformers. He told me it is not a problem with capacitors or the transformers, the problem lies in the Input stage, not the output stage. And that because it has single sided PCB it would be difficult and expensive to repair because some of the parts are now obsolete. This is why it is listed here for parts and for so cheap.
During a conversation with another technician about this same amplifier I was told that even though the parts might be obsolete, new parts can be used to restore function and that he was up to the task. He insists that he is confident he can restore it to factory spec and full working condition or I don't pay him anything. While I am having it worked on I am keeping it advertised here for sale as is. If it can be restored to full working condition and the work warranted, I will adjust my asking price accordingly. So if you're at all interested in this amplifier as is, get in touch and you can still buy it. If it does get repaired I will still be selling it as I have already purchased its replacement and have no need for two amplifiers. The asking price then will be closer to $500 so keep that in mind.
I know the way this ad reads it is a little confusing, I am advertising the amplifier here for parts and as is, in case someone else has one of these and needs a clean case or replacement parts. The rest of this amplifier checks out as is, test results included. Asking price does not include shipping, I can ship but prefer someone local as it is pretty heavy. Lots of nice parts inside, transformers, etc. Asking price is firm, so please no offers.
