One of the earliest first generation audiophile music CDs released (in Japan only), manufactured/pressed in Japan February 1983 - Joan Armatrading 'The Key' - catalog# “4912-2” from Matsushita's limited audiophile “Audio Master Plus Series" CD catalog.

CD is in like-new condition as is sleeve - Case is not original - connectors and corners cracked as I disassembled it to dust inside (Price is adjusted down to reflect this).

All correct markings are clearly visible - “Matsushita Electric Ind Co Ltd” imprinted in large block print around center hub (Panasonic) and hand-etched “4912-2” on runout. NOTE: Any cd without those marks are later releases and should be listed at much lower price than this CD even though they are commonly posted under 4912-2 on sites like Amazon (that still uses my uploaded photos as “stock photos” from when I had rare audiophile cd store on the site and was first Seller to enter all the data).

Not many 2/1983 Japan made 4912-2 copies came to the USA, and those that did, were usually sold in New York or LA retailers, mostly purchased by collectors and audiophile hobbyists who wanted to buy the first cds.

Sonically inferior to the original MFSL series and Steve Hoffman DCC issued audiophile cds, the Audio Master Plus Series cds nonetheless have unique sonic qualities that were far superior sounding in comparison to stock retail cds manufactured in the 1980s.

The first music cds credited as manufactured for sale were made in August 1982 in Japan. This CD was distributed 6 months later in February, 1983 (in Japan, but available through select USA audiophile music retailers as an import).

No CDs were officially "released" directly in the USA until Springsteen's "Born In The USA" in 1984 (have that one too but it’s not for sale).

I've owned this since new - Purchased in NYC when I lived there in 1980s, placed it in a box, forgot about it, and was never played til recently (twice, the second when I burned it to my hard-drive) when I discovered it in an old box of random cds.

A very rare collectable at an appropriate price for independent seller, that is in immaculate condition.

Buyer pays (via PayPal) an additional flat $8 for USA shipping via USPS "Padded Envelope Priority Mail" (2-3 business day delivery) - Will be reinforced with bubble wrap and a LOT of packing tape.

Buyers from outside USA pay (via PayPal) all shipping, insurance and duty tax, plus $2 for packaging materials.

Be happy to send more photos upon request.
