McIntosh MC2000 No more to be said; see link if you are not familiar, not many are since only 550 were made. I bought this unused in Dec 2017 still with the gold trim shrink wrapped but missing the tube cage / screws (available thru Mc parts) and the shipping cartons.
Removed my MC 275 MK VI and and put this in its place. Since that time I have had no time to critically listen to the two channel set up and use my Mc HT set instead; I don’t see much future use either since I lost my man cave and have to share a living room with the family. Bottom line is that this gets zero use so it might as well put a buck back in my pocket.
I have the factory tube set with maybe 1-2 hours on them, boxed them back up and installed Genalex KT-88 re-issues, CV4204 Mullard military NOS and ECC803S/12AX7 Tung-Sol reissue tubes. The new tubes (and amp) have no more than 10 hours on them . This wonderful amp is in perfect condition functionally and cosmetically. The phone photos show some specs but this is NOT corrosion. I can try to get behind for rear photos if needed but at 175 lbs its not moving unless its leaving.
$7000.00 with all tubes and custom cover. Located in south Texas 78418. Audition with Klipsch Cornwall IIIs and pick up or can meet in reasonable driving distance for some gas (San Antonio, Houston, Austin)
Mar 10, 18 4:54am In answer to some questions I have received:
I did not purchase it new and I am the second owner.
I purchased the amp in Dec 2017 from a person selling off a family member’s estate. The story I got was that he had a large collection on display some that had never been used. When I found out about it almost everything else was gone. I asked about the other items (box, gloves, cage, screws) and they really did know about them and had possibly thrown them out with empty boxes. Based on the condition of the amp, shrink wrap on it in the factory locations and lack of evidence that the tubes had ever been installed (no marks on tube pins or sockets) I do believe I received an unused MC-2000. I sorta understand about the cage not being on the guy’s amp as I never had my 275 cage on and there is some chatter on the web about it scratching the gold plating of the 2000 when mounted.
I understand totally that the missing boxes is an issue (my attic is full of boxes) and I believe I have priced the amp accordingly.
The cage and screws are available (or were 2 weeks ago) from McIntosh but are pricey along the lines of ~$650.00.
Shipping? I have discussed that with Audio Classics and they recommend using a shipping carton for the MC-1.2KW amp so that is an option but I still don’t think I would do it unless the carton was dropped shipped to me and it was banded to a small pallet.
On the tubes, yes the factory original and the ones listed are included.
Thanks for your interest.
