If you were led into a room blindfolded and even one of the best assemblages of high end equipment was playing; if someone asked you if you thought the sound was a reproduction or actual musicians playing in the room, and would you bet $20 that you are correct, would you be confident in your guess? ...

I always prefer to find inexpensive ways to do things,if I can, rather than throwing good money at stuff. There are some instances where you have to perhaps, if you want to get to a certain level. Sometimes natural organic materials work best, or at least very well. I know there are cable manufactur...

Interesting about the Quad esl57 stacking. Those are one of the vintage speakers I have always wanted to hear, along with the Ohm A & F models, Smell Type A III, Pioneer HPM 200 (very UN Pioneer like back then I hear), Beveridge electrostatics, & Shannon Obelisk. I have heard Quad 63s and va...

It is a little primitive & subjective to quantify sound quality. I think I mostly base my percentages on openness and image size. If I do a tweak and a grand piano sounds 25% bigger in size than the last time I heard it and everything else sounds way better also, I might give it about a 25% impr...

Yes; more than double. Can you do it cheaply? Yes, many tweaks cost nothing or next to nothing. To a subtleed audiophile a 5% improvement is somewhat subtle, but clearly audible. So you can imagine what 30 times that improvement would be; or can you? Some would say that attatching percentages to soun...

Nowadays with quality audio salons getting further apart geographically, we can't always audition what we are interested in. I always enjoyed Sherlock Holmes stories, where a potential client would enter his office & using his deductive skills acquired from long experience, he could deduce all k...

I have an integrated amp that has a button that when pressed in, puts it into class A for the first 5 Watts or so and has a sliding bias which then switches it into class A/B on higher dynamic swings.I have wondered about this. I play 2 pairs of identical speakers stacked on top of each other at the...

Just when you are confident of vinyl being superior, you discover some great new CD label, the latest one for me is the one Marcus Roberts is recorded on ( can't think of it), and you start doubting your own convictions. I am certain that cds at their best easily beat middle of the road vinyl,( lets...

It does wander off the topic, and I'm the original poster ! My original nominee for most unique piece of music that's genius: the side long track of side 2 called "Virtually" by Soft machine can be heard on YouTube by punching in Soft Machine 4. Not just a good listen, but "a journey&...

Several years ago I got an opportunity to buy a pair of Supra's top model interconnects. They are a Swedish company.I always wanted to buy a really top notch interconnect, but I didn't want to go the money. I think this, their top model lists for at least $900 for 3 feet. I was pleased that the guy a...

Re: The cable manufacturer saying his new cable is 3 times better. He might have just been not meaning to be taken literally; meaning its way way better, but I wasn't party to the conversation so I don't know. I don't think there are 300% sound quality improvements in audio. In my estimation about a...

I found a whole box of mostly still sealed lps. Someone must have passed on, and their wife must have donated them to a second hand store. The owner told me she has many more boxes, but she didn't' know if records would sell because her ds were slow, and didn't' want to take up store space. I made he...

What are some of the things you have discovered and what in particular amaze...

Thanks for the trivia though about the Robertson amp.Dryness can make an amp sound smoother than it really is.That probably is what confused the reviewer. He should have noticed that the tonal colors were diminished. We count on reviewers to be our ears sometime, when we can't actually travel to hear ...

Unfortunately, the magazine that published that the. Robertson was the SS king of the hill lost thousands of its following (subscribers) over reviews and controversies like that.To my ears it was dry and had a suppressed upper midrange. It did have good bass and its certainly not an important product...
