Hey guys, just bought a Modulus3 that came with a bunch of these. I ran my Modulus2b on EI 6dj8s so I'm not familiar with thes. What do I have?

Those are Russian Military tubes. Should have a "rocket" logo somewhere on them? Excellent tube, if they are indeed the "rocket" logo version. One of my favorite 6DJ8/6922/7308 family of tubes.

sbm604, do you own the Modulus 3 or 3b?

From the AI website, a good explanation of the various tubes that work in the unit and Art's review of them:

Thanks. No rocket insignia. CCCP inside a pentagon and OTK markings though. I'm gonna roll my Ei elite gold pin 6dj8a tubes for comparison. So much more fun than solid state!!!

I did a very extensive review of the Russian 6N23P over on Headfi:
https://www.head-fi.org/threads/6922-tu ... es.761078/

You have the Reflektor 6N23P-EB also designated as -EV and -EH, an especially durable version - needed in the 3b. As the Modulus is known as a tube eater (due to over voltage heating, and always on design). The Voskhod 6n23p's are the ones with the rocket logos.

Quote:
According to my tube data, the 6DJ8, 6922, and 7308 have progressively higher voltage and current ratings with the Russian equivalents going even higher:

6DJ8 ratings:

ECC88/PCC88/UCC88 = 6DJ8/7DJ8/21DJ8 > 130V /1.8W

E88CC=6922 > 220V / 1.8W

E188CC=7308 > 250V/ 2W

6N23P/Sovtek 6922 > 300V/ 1.8W

6N23P-EV/EH 6922 > 300V/ 2W

So, a 7308 is rated for a voltage of 250V -double that of a 6DJ8. It would appear that the new EH 6922 has the highest rating of all. 6922 and 7308 are also rated for 10,000 use as compared to 5,000 for 6DJ8.

Tubelover2,

I bought these off eBay recently from a vendor based in Bulgaria and installed them in my AI Modulus 3B. They sound fine but I'm not an expert in tubes. What do you think?

Do you have a picture or ebay link? The finest 6n23p (6h23n) Russian tube made in my experience are sublime 1975 Reflektor Single Wire Getter Silver shields - in fact in my face off they beat the Siemens CCa early 60's gray shields and Amperex Pinched Waists.

There is a huge difference in the dual flat dimpled getter post version and rare single curved wire getter versions. I have had literally thousands of Russian tubes, and have extensively compared them all.

You dual getter posts are not bad tubes and better then the new production JJ's and the like. For the Modulus 3B look for the super durable 6n23p-EB's. They can with stand a higher voltage, not the best sounding Russian tube by a long shot, but still pretty good.

A huge note of caution on Eastern Euro and Russian Ebay tube dealers - I have had a nightmare buying from them. Sending tubes different then pictured, not working or noisy, etc.. So buyer beware.

Here is a picture of the fails I have bought from Ebay:

CyroSet is a good place to get the -EB -EV's.

Good Luck!

See how long they last, if they burn out in a few months - I'd suggest getting the -EV's
