I paid about $15K for a Kondo Souga amplifier on the website Audio Zoom Zoom. All communication stopped once the money was paid. The guy went by the name Varchi.

This is really unfortunate. The website was created on wix.com so it looks virtually indistinguishable from a professionally created site.

Some things of note:

The site does not list any sort of physical address anywhere in their pages. They just say "Europe".
They accept cryptocurrencies as a form of payment. Not illegal but definitely something scammers would attempt to use because the transaction is not traceable.
The images definitely look like they have been culled from other online classifieds.

We strongly suggest that you report this crime to your local police as well as the other following agencies:

There are several groups that specialize in dealing with scammers.

- FTC toll free hotline: 877-FTC-HELP (877-382-4357)
- FTC online complaint form (www.ftc.gov)
- Internet Fraud Complaint Center (www.ic3.gov/)
- Non-emergency number for your local police department.

https://www.europol.europa.eu/report-a- ... ime-online <-- I'm not sure if you can report this site without knowing where they are located (assuming they would actually reveal their true location). Maybe "Karchi" indicated where the item would ship from?

There's a long thread on Audiogon on this topic, same OP.
It's not even clear that the seller is in the Netherlands, though his bank is.

For my part, I wouldn't be wiring big money out of the country for anything.
