Hi,
I have opportunity to buy a used Classe CA-400 amp. Seller says that it runs hot to the touch on the left side only, not on the right, but that it sounds wonderful and balanced. Anybody have experience with this amp, and can say if the temperature distribution is normal?

Thanks!
Doug

have you thought about contacting Classe and asking them ?

which side is the transformer on ?

I recently had a Krell ( 2250 ? ), that the transformer was on the left side, so it only made sense that the left side would get hotter than the right side.......

I have owned that amp a few times.....it is very musical but still accurate. I really liked it. Pair it with a tube preamp or warm solid state preamp and you be happy. Has tons of power and current...can drive almost anything.
However, get a good price...it has been around for a long time...very heavy!!!

L/R channel Bias is off --must be reset. can be done by a capable person --with an ammeter.

It seems Classe has issues with rspect to wandering bias levls. Otrewrwise, a wonderful amplifier. New series CA-201/301/401 have superior transparency/resolution.

The CA-2100/2200/CA-M400 trounce the (decidely excellent) previous models. GREAT amps.
