I'd like to hear only from people who have heard both of these CD players. Is the Audio Research better? If so, why? Also, is the CD6 being discontinued? Thank you.

have heard the Wadia with the GNSC Statement and it sounded very good. a lot also depends on the rest of the system....the system I heard the Wadia on was with Wolcott Mono Blocks, Martin Logan Prodigy speakers and Kubula Sosna cables ( forget what model)

the Wadia, how old is that player getting to be now ? if something was to happen to that player, can it be fixed ? that would be my only concern ......

Associated gear: ARC LS27, ARC REF75SE, Harbeth 30.2. I've had the Wadia for about 12 years. It works perfectly and sounds great. I was just wondering if the CD6 -- or maybe the CD9 -- would be better. I can't audition the ARC stuff, but I've owned many, many ARC pieces over the last 25 years. Thanks.

Welcome! to the Forums.

Your inquiry is very specific so if you don't get enough responses to help you make an informed decision, I'd advise you to post the same question on the Canuck Audio Mart forums. The CAM forums are much busier than the USAM forums on a daily basis so you may have better luck over there. Your username and password are the same on CAM as they are here on USAM.

I noticed that you posted the same question on CAM like I suggested and I'm somewhat surprised that you've had 95 views but no replies. I think it's because of what I mentioned before: your inquiry is very specific and as such it is applicable to a very small minority of audiophiles that not only might have experience with the Wadia but in particular have a history or knowledge of that model with the GNSC Statement upgrade. So right off the bat you're limited to a very small group that might respond.

I'm also surprised that you didn't get any of the standard "Well I've never heard the Wadia or the ARC but I think you should try the Gizmotron 4040 instead" types of replies, which is a good thing. Many forum contributors tend to ignore requests for info and then hop up on their soapbox and pontificate endlessly about this, that and the other.

If all else fails try the AudiogoN forums. Couldn't hurt.

I agree with all of your points. I certainly didn't expect to get a lot of responses, but even one or two might have been helpful. Thank you.

I sent a Wadia to the company which now owns both Wadia and ARC. They own McIntosh as well. The disc drive units in the Wadia are no longer manufactured, so they can't be fixed. As a consolation, they offered me a trade in allowance and a steep discount towards the purchase of a McIntosh CD 550. It sounds great, not as good as the Wadia in some respects, but better in others.

Most transports and CD drives are no longer manufactured by the original OEM manufacturers but you can still get new replacement transports from various sellers on ebay. I purchased 2 Sanyo SF-91 transports as backups for my Linn Ikemi for less than $60.00 from Liberty Electronics in Miami.
