For your consideration is an original pair of very rare Fried Model R monitors with stands, that still sound great. My father purchased these I believe in 1977 for $1500. Original components, they were always used in the home and not altered in any way. These are a mirror imaged pair and appear to have consecutive serial numbers (one of the numbers is faded and hard to completely read). Since these speakers are all original, I believe, but can not attest, that the following components were used.
Near the cable posts it lists ‘MAX 3AG 2A’. It appears these speakers employ the T27 melinex tweeter and B110 bextrene midrange. In order to supplement this Irving M. Fried supplemented these two drivers with the B139 'racetrack woofer' for improved bass response. The speaker employs a resistive line tunnel (modified transmission line variant) to increase the LF extension. This speaker exhibits very sweet highs with the T27 tweeter along with the lush British midrange long associated with the B110. All the original electronics are in place.
This speaker cabinets have light scratches on the rose wood surfaces. There is a small gouge on the back particle board. They could be easily refinished or enjoyed as is. One of the tweeter cones is pushed in a bit, see photo. Overall they look nice for their age and sound great.
Local pickup only in the Minneapolis area. Cash or credit card only. If this ad is up these speakers are still for sale.
