The legendary McCormack DNA-1 Power Drive amplifier in very good condition. 150 WPC. An amazingly flexible amp, it does everything from wide soundstaging and imaging to deep bass. Never heard a hint of etchiness. That's what you buy good amps for.
I've paired it with three different preamps (both tube & solid state) and it gave me the best those pieces had to offer without ever really getting in the way of anything that went through it would be the best way to describe it. I'd gladly keep it, it does EVERYTHING right, but I'm jonesing for more power to my B&W 802's. I have the original manual and the upgrade paperwork but no original box. However, it will be carefully packed for flawless shipping.
$1049- I like haggling as much as anyone else, however, we're talking $1049 here for a critically acclaimed 150/300 WPC model with critically acclaimed factory upgrades from this decade. If someone else has a Kris Jeter upgraded DNA1 anywhere online for less than *1049.* this year, buy it there and forget this one.
The unit has undergone, in October 2011, a $1700 Silver level modification by SMc Audio, who were staff from the original McCormack. This amp is signed by Kris Jeter. These mods include :
- Completely recapped with new & better capacitors in the amplifier sections and all new wiring - Upgraded driver board (new improved resistors / capacitors / etc) - Upgraded input & output connectors (WBT next gen RCA's & Cardas binding posts) - AC inlet upgrade - Revision / testing / repair of any other components as necessary
