PS Audio Directstream DAC with the ethernet bridge - I received it brand new from PS Audio on 7/26 with the bridge installed at the factory. It was a replacement for a Directstream Junior which I'd been having problems with. Have to tip my cap to PS Audio customer service on that one - they upgraded me to Sr free of charge.
I am a longtime vinyl guy and this PS Audio DAC was the first digital music purveyor of any kind that challenged that. Severely challenged it. The Directstream DAC, streaming 44/16 files from Tidal, sounds unbelievably good, and even more so, unbelievably analog. Before the Directstream Jr. I had an Auralic Vega and the DSJ just blew it out of the water, and the Directstream Sr is that much better than the Jr. The Auralic is a great sounding DAC but the Direcstream sound is so much more spacious and natural, without even a hint of the flat glassy presentation that I associate with digital.
I'm selling because I upgraded my vinyl rig to a sound that regularly equals this DAC (it wasn't cheap). Since I did that now I'm at a point where sometimes my vinyl sound beats the DS DAC, sometimes the DS DAC beats the vinyl. It's generally very close and recording dependent. But at my heart I am a vinyl guy - I love records, love finding weird ones for 2 bucks, just find the whole lifestyle more fun. So I'm through with the A-B'ing these days and I'm mostly back to my records such that the Directstream is sitting unused most of the time. I've agonized over whether to sell it, but given some recent audio splurges recently the time has come. I've made my peace with the fact that there's avery good chance I will buy another one of these someday.
Read any review of this DAC - there are a ton of them and they're all raves. It's the reference DAC of John Atkinson at Stereophile, product of the year at many of the big rags. Future proof bc software updates can (and do) regularly upgrade the sound in revelatory fashion (all software is up to date on this unit). With the ethernet bridge you can stream to the unit and get your computer out of the chain - either use the proprietary app or Roon or any of the other programs (I am a Roon guy but MPlayer works perfectly with this unit). Unfolds full MQA over any input. Upsamples everything to 20x DSD. Just does everything basically.
Like I said I had a Directstream Jr beforehand that had issues - those issues were with the functionality of the ethernet bridge. Since I have had this Directstream Sr. I have not had a single problem with it. And as I said it is a considerable sonic upgrade over the Junior. I didn't expect it to be but it's pretty significant.
PS Audio will carry over the warranty to this unit so it has a good 30 months of warranty left on it. To give you an idea of their customer service, that Directstream Junior I had I bought second hand on Audiogon with the warranty carried over. On that warranty PS Audio replaced the ethernet bridge for free with shipping included both ways, and then when the unit still had problems they just replaced it with the Directstream Sr. That's some customer service right there.
These run $5999 new and the bridge is an additional $900. I'm asking $3700 shipped, the lowest price I've ever seen for one of these on the web that has the bridge installed. And mine is basically new - I have likely just exceeded the 500 hours recommended for break in. All original materials and boxes included.
DAC, remote, power cable, original box and packaging, all original materials.
