SOLD - FOR SALE: Sonic Frontiers SFD-2 Mk.III DAC - exc. condition, w/ Assemblage D2D-1 sample rate converter

Offered here is the very rare Mk.III version of this excellent Sonic Frontiers DAC. It has been updated by the original owner at Sonic Frontiers years ago to include the Mundorf caps.

The SFD-2 MKIII DAC is one of the best and rarest reference R2R DAC systems ever created for Redbook playback. This is a system that should only be used with the highest quality components. There is no USB input or similar frills. The MKIII mod brings it to 24b/96k. I'm just going to say it: If you think you can hear improvements above 24/96 and that this unit is too old to be competitive, then you haven't heard what old-school, no holds barred design and construction can sound like.

The SFD-2 MKIII features full differential, EIGHT BURR BROWN PCM1704 R2R multibit 24/96 chips (4 per leg), the best HCDC chips - PMD200. This is a huge upgrade over the highly rated SDF-2 MKII that used the UA D2400A. Its analog stage uses the beautiful 6922/6DJ8/7308 tubes. Dither, jitter attenuation and HDCD gain can be set by internal jumpers. See the MKIII "white paper" below for the full technical details.

The original owner (I'm the 2nd owner) bought the SDF-2 directly Sonic Frontiers. it was later upgraded by Chris Johnson at Parts Express (the original founder of Sonic Frontiers) to the MKIII version. This is an incredibly rare unit, with fewer than 100 MKIII units ever produced. The upgrade package includes:
- 10uf Mundorf caps!
- True 75 ohm BNC connectors
- Teflon composite tube sockets
- TKD, Caddock, and Vishay signal resistors
- Upgraded NICHICON power supply caps
- CREE Scotty and SF4007 diodes

This unit is in pristine collector's-level condition. My rating is an "8" due to age. The SFD-2 MKIII will be double boxed. The owners manuals, power cords, and an I2S-e umbilical cord.

Now including the matching Assemblage D2D-1 sample rate converter / jitter reduction device. It works great with the I2S-e cable included, and can distribute digital signals to multiple DACs if you're so inclined (like me!).

The units are set for 120v line voltage. I believe that this can be changed internally, though I'm not 100% sure. I'd therefore prefer to limit sales to USA & Canada.
