Can anyone find someone to repair a TEAC DX 2B DBX unit
Or is there a source for a replacement.
I have a DBX unit that I used for cassettes but when using it with the TEAC reel to reel it does not sound correct as there is a level difference and noise.
Thanks

You might want to post on the tapeheads.net forum and ask the question. It sound like you need to find someone with a good knowledge base of the various DBX formats and schemes to get to the right answer.

Welcome! Scott to USAM and the forums.

I have to assume that you've already seen this one on eBay: around $100.00 with shipping but sold As-Is with no returns because apparently the seller has no way to properly test it. He is accepting offers though.

I lived in Hotlanta 16 years ago and briefly worked with an audio repair tech who lived in Woodstock and this guy could fix anything - if he couldn't fix it, it couldn't be fixed.

I'm fairly certain he still lives in the Atlanta metro area and I'll try to find some contact info on him. Until then, I'd take the excellent advice given by dreaming and see where it takes you.

Scott - sorry to say I was unable to track down my former co-worker from Atlanta.

It appears that he moved to Austin, TX and then out to Torrance, CA.

Let us know if and when you solve your dbx problem. Best of luck! :)

This place is run by a former TEAC tech. He has done a good job on several decks for me:

Yes, there is a level difference. Cassette tapes have a reference level of -20db. Open reel tapes at 3-3/4 and 7-1/2ips have a reference level of -10db. Open reel tapes at 15 and 30ips have a reference level of 0db. Since DBX and Dolby require calibration to a reference level, they are NOT interchangeable.
